Salt Lake (5-10-2) has won three straight home matches. RSL also snapped a two-game losing streak and earned a clean sheet after allowing 11 goals in those two previous matches.
Minnesota (4-9-2) allowed 29 shots and produced only five.
Salt Lake created plenty of scoring chances in the attacking third before halftime -- outshooting the Loons 12-3 in the first 45 minutes. Finishing those shots proved impossible. Minnesota goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth came up with one big save after another to keep RSL off the board.
The most critical save, however, came from midfielder Sam Cronin in the 25th minute. Forward Joao Plata stole a lazy pass and flicked the ball ahead to fellow forward Luis Silva. Silva sidestepped Shuttleworth and had an open net in front of him. Cronin caught Silva from behind and made a well-timed tackle to deny a potential goal.
RSL nearly broke the ice in the 49th minute when Jefferson Savarino blasted a shot off the crossbar. None of the Salt Lake players could punch it in on a second chance rebound.
Shuttleworth kept Salt Lake off the board again in the 77th minute with one his best saves of the match. Midfielder Luke Mulholland unleashed a cannon outside the box and the Loons' keeper made a leaping save to parry the ball away for a corner kick.
Movsisyan finally got RSL on the board in the 84th minute. Justen Glad headed a ball served to him off a corner kick into the center of the 6-yard box.
Shuttleworth wrapped up the initial shot, but the ball spilled out of his hands. Movsisyan latched onto the ball and chipped it over the keeper to put Salt Lake on the board.
